![]() ![]() Update: I have read newer books from this author since the time I wrote this review and am very pleased to say that I immensely enjoy his newer work. I could imagine other people enjoying themselves when reading it. ![]() It doesn't insult the reader, it does honestly try to be good. He tries to sell us on an invasion that brings down a world-spanning apocalypse, but all he can manage is the equivalent of urban looting in one town.Īgain, this book isn't awful. The author's vision is entirely too small. Fantasy goblins and minotaurs utterly steamroll over a modern tehnic society? Maybe individually and unarmed, but I'd like to see a minotaur stop a semi, or these high level monsters deal with an air strike. That's not a good story.Īlso, and this is a lesser criticism, the premise is poorly thought out. The major conflict that is resolved, uses the protagonist as a vessel for a deus ex machina: the hero becomes a god, the god solves the problem, goes away and the hero is left with the glory. This book is obviously meant to start a series, but the protagonist does not resolve any of the conflicts presented by the story. I won't give any spoilers, but every protagonist needs to resolve their conflict with the tools and experiences they've gathered over the arc of the story. This book isn't awful, it just isn't good.įirst off, the plot is poorly thought out. Author tried to bite off a bigger story than he could chew, and choked on it
